Asake once again fills the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena

Must Read

MOBO Award-winning Afrobeat artist Asake has achieved a rare feat by filling the UK's iconic 20,000-capacity O2 Arena for the second time in two years.

Asake sold out the iconic venue for the first time in 2023 following the release of her second album 'Work of Art' in a moment that heralded her global rise.

The O2 Arena, a major venue in London, is a major milestone for any artist. The fact that all available tickets are sold out at this venue is a testament to an artist's popularity and the high demand for their performance.

Asake’s achievement of selling out the O2 Arena twice in two years puts him in the same league as international superstars like Beyoncé, Spicegirls, Rihanna and the Rolling Stones, who have also packed out the iconic venue. He also joins the ranks of Davido and Wizkid, who have sold out the O2 Arena more than once.

Asake achieved the feat on Saturday when he performed at the 02 Arena as part of his 'Lungu Boy World Tour' and made a spectacular entrance via helicopter and thrilled the crowd with his hits including 'Olorun', 'Omo Ope' and 'Amapiano'.

Sold out sign

Hollywood star Idris Elba also presented Asake with the sold-out plaque for her new hit and a silver BRIT plaque for 'Work of Art', her 2023 album.

Among the guests who attended the show was Wizkid, who performed happily alongside Asake.

Wizkid headlined the O2 Arena as a solo act in 2019 before returning to the venue for three historic consecutive nights in 2021.

Davido also made history in 2018, becoming the first Nigerian solo artist to headline the O2 Arena.

Since releasing his new album, LUNGU BOY, Asake has been touring all over the world. The release of his latest album made touring a necessity. This tour started at the 02 Arena and the world watched him fill the space. Tracks from his most recent works were played as he performed his songs and the audience got involved.

In August, PREMIUM TIMES reported that Asake's Lungu Boy broke Spotify and Apple records in the United States.

The album garnered over 5.86 million streams on Spotify on its first day, and on its first day, Lungu Boy surpassed Davido's album Timeless, which garnered 4.9 million streams.

For a Nigerian album on Spotify globally, ‘Lungu Boy’ also set a new record for the most global streams on its first day of release, with 9.2 million.
