PDP wins all 260 council seats in Enugu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all the 260 councillor seats in the 17 local government areas of Enugu State during Saturday's local government election in the state.

Christian Ngwu, a professor and Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), stated this while declaring the results on Monday in Enugu.

Mr Ngwu said the commission had delayed announcing the results of the councillor elections because it was reviewing them.

The electoral commission on Sunday declared the PDP the winner of all 17 presidential seats in the state.

Mr Ngwu, also an electoral officer in charge of the elections, said ENSIEC carefully compiled and analysed the results to ensure there were no errors or violations of electoral law.

“The PDP won all the 260 councillor seats in the 260 political wards of the state. The elections were duly conducted and were extremely peaceful, fair, free and credible.

“ENSIEC guaranteed a level playing field for the 17 political parties that participated in the elections held on Saturday.

“Full details of the councillor election will be published and made public at a later date,” he said.

According to him, the commission will soon issue a Certificate of Return to the winners.

The president said there was no substantial history of violence during the elections.

“The commission is not aware of any violence or disturbance of public order during the elections,” it said.
