Officials at Nakowa Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri have commenced clearing and evacuation of debris dumped around the hospital premises following flooding that occurred in the capital city of Borno State on September 10.
During a tour of the city on Friday, Newslodgeobserved that Nakowa Specialist Hospital, located at the Government Residential Area (GRA) axis, was one of the medical facilities completely submerged by the flood.
The hospital, established in 1985, is one of the first major private hospitals in Maiduguri. Hospital management said the flood destroyed all paper records.

The flood also destroyed all laboratory equipment, reagents, medications, computers, mattresses and other essential components of the hospital.
“We appeal to the Government, NGOs and the general public to assist and support us in any way they can to revive this hospital,” said Paul Ijogo, Nakowa Hospital’s Chief Administrative and Financial Officer.

Lydia Adigun, a midwife at the hospital, described the situation as pathetic.

“We thank God that no life has been lost. There is a lot of damage. We are trying to clean things up by washing to see what we can salvage. We are calling on the masses and the government to come to our aid,” said Mrs. Adigun.
Recent flooding in the state has killed more than 30 people and affected about half a million others, officials said.
