One man named Nwachukwu Ikechukwu died and his wife, Oyin Falodun, is in the hospital. This happened because they breathed in smoke from their generator at home in Shogoye community, Owode Egba, Ogun State.
A person from their community named Oladayo Olasubomi found them. She went to give Oyin N1,000, which she does every day. When she got to their house, she saw Nwachukwu lying still on the floor, and Oyin was not awake.
Oladayo was very scared and called for help. Many neighbors came running to help.
The police talked about this on Saturday. Police officer Omolola Odutola said that the leader of the community, Showunmi Sunday, told them about it at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
The police quickly went to the house. They found Nwachukwu still on the floor and Oyin not awake but still alive. They took them to Ore Ofe Hospital in Owode Egba.
Officer Odutola said, “Showunmi Sunday, the community leader, came to our station and said a couple in Shogoye had trouble at home.
“Oyin Falodun, a woman, and Nwachukwu Ikechukwu, a man, live in the same house. Oladayo Olasubomi, a woman from the same community, came to give Oyin her N1,000 daily contribution. She found Nwachukwu not moving on the floor and Oyin also lying there, but not awake. She did not see any signs of fighting.”
“Oladayo then screamed for help, and other neighbors rushed over to help.
After some time, Oyin woke up at the hospital and told them what happened. She said they fell asleep after turning on their generator. The generator was in the living room to make their bedroom fan work.
She told them that she asked her husband if she should turn off the generator, but he said no.
“They both fell asleep. The generator ran out of fuel and turned off. The smoke from the generator must have been very bad for them. She then saw her husband getting out of bed and falling on the floor, not moving.”
Officer Odutola said the police are still looking into what happened. Nwachukwu’s body has been taken to the General Hospital in Owode Egba for more checks to find out how he died.
