President Bola Tinubu has kindly given food to help people affected by floods in Maiduguri, Borno State. This includes 100 big trucks full of rice and other items.

This news was shared by Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture, on Saturday.

Kyari said that the president also gave 50 trucks of maize, 30 trucks of sorghum, and 20 trucks of millet to the state government to help the flood victims.

“After President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Borno State to show his support after the recent floods, he asked me to bring 6,000 tonnes of different food items to help the people. This includes 100 trucks of rice, 50 trucks of maize, 30 trucks of sorghum, and 20 trucks of millet,” Kyari said.

More Details

The Minister also said the President gave 2,000 water pumps to help areas still dealing with flooding.

He mentioned that a special team will be set up to find ways to improve farming in the state, ensuring support for those who rely on farming to make a living.

“The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has also provided 2,000 water pumps to assist communities still affected by flooding.

“Moreover, a committee will be formed under the National Agricultural Development Fund to review and suggest improvements for farming activities in the state. This will help farmers rebuild their futures,” the Minister added.

Important Information

Recently, Maiduguri experienced its worst flood since 1994. Many homes in Borno have been flooded because the Alau Dam overflowed after being full for the past week.

To help, Finance Minister Wale Edun has proposed a relief package of N3 billion for the affected states.

The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has also pledged over $6.5 million to help with flood relief in Nigeria. This money will go to local partners, like the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to help with the flooding in multiple regions across the country.

Well-known Nigerians, including businessman Aliko Dangote and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have also donated generously to help the people of Borno State during this difficult time.
