Edo People, Not Wike, Will Decide Their Leader – Ighodalo

Must Read

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, says that the people of Edo State are the ones who will choose their next governor.

Ighodalo said this while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today show on Monday.

According to Ighodalo, the decision of who will succeed the current governor, Godwin Obaseki, is up to the people of Edo and not up to PDP leaders like Nyesom Wike or anyone else.

Last Friday, Wike stated that he wouldn’t support Ighodalo, who is supported by the outgoing governor.

Wike said, “I told Obaseki and Ighodalo when they came to me that I will not support you or anyone else. When I supported someone before, it didn’t help at all. Instead, I was insulted.

“I supported Obaseki the last time, and what happened? I ended up looking like a fool,” Wike added.

In response, Ighodalo said that it’s not true that Governor Wike said he would not support them, and mentioned that things may have changed since then, so Wike is free to change his mind.

Ighodalo said, “I believe Wike is a man of his word, but if he has changed his mind, that’s okay.

“When Wike and I spoke, we discussed issues about good governance, Nigeria’s future, and how to make the country better. We talked about Edo State, and at the end of our conversation, he said he would not get involved in Edo State matters anymore.

“But again, if he has decided to change his mind, that’s fine, but the choice of who becomes the next governor of Edo State is up to the people of Edo, and not anyone else – not former governors or ministers.

“It’s only the citizens of Edo State, those who live there and have their PVCs, who will make that decision with the help of God. That’s how I see it. I am not afraid of any man; I only fear God,” Ighodalo emphasized.
