Popular actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli shared how she swapped her scripts for acting roles when she first started in movies.
She talked about this on Radionow FM, explaining why she switched from acting to directing.
Omoni said she noticed her ideas were not coming to life the way she imagined, which made her want to become a director.
“I used to trade my scripts for acting roles. I would tell producers not to pay me, but just give me a part in the film.
“But when I watched the movies, they were not like what I saw in my mind while writing. I think in pictures, so I see the movie in my head while I write. But the final movie looks very different.
“That does not mean the movies were bad. It’s just that no two directors will make the same movie the same way. So, I realized if I wanted my movies to look like my ideas, I had to direct them myself,” she said.
“It was a scary thought, but I told myself, ‘If others can do it, I can do it too!’
“So I started learning from directors by watching them closely on set while I acted. Then I thought maybe I should get some formal training on this. So I took a short course at the New York Film Academy.”
