Edo Gubernatorial Elections: Mercy Johnson Faces Backlash for Supporting Okpebholo

Must Read

Mercy Johnson-Okojie, a famous actress from Nigeria’s Nollywood, is facing a lot of negative comments on social media. This happened after she publicly supported Monday Okpebholo, a candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the coming Edo State governor election.

In a video shared on social media, Mercy Johnson was seen at a rally asking people to vote for Okpebholo. She told the crowd that they need to support the APC candidate.

During the rally, she talked about the many problems in Edo State. She mentioned that there is no electricity, no water, poor healthcare, and it’s not safe.

She asked, “Are you tired of no light, no water, no healthcare, and no security? If you want a change, raise your hand and vote for Senator Monday.”

She also said, “Get up early on the election day, go to the field, and vote for Monday, vote for APC, vote for the broom,” referring to the APC party symbol.

However, this video made many people angry online. They criticized her for supporting the ruling party, APC, even though many people in the country are suffering from economic problems.

Monday Okpebholo is competing against Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party (LP), among others, for the election on September 21.
