Dammy Krane files suit with IGP over breakup with Davido, demands $500,000

Must Read

The ongoing feud between singer Dammy Krane and his colleague, Davido, has further escalated after he (Dammy Krane) petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, against the latter.

The petition, filed through the Centre for Corruption Prevention and Human Rights Abuse Initiative, came weeks after Dammy Krane was released from detention by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) in Abuja.

Dammy Krane's arrest was a result of defamation allegations against Davido.

The feud between the 32-year-old singer and the 'Timeless' hitmaker began in October 2023 when Dammy Krane accused Davido of owing him money for their 2017 collaboration on the song 'Pere'.

The singers have since been embroiled in a bitter feud, trading accusations over the death of Tagbo Umeike, sabotage of a record deal and other issues. Umeike, the late friend of music artiste Davido, died of suffocation in October 2017.

Despite the challenges, Dammy Krane, through his legal representative, Mr. Tseen, the National Director of Legal Affairs, persisted in seeking justice. He urged the Inspector General to order Davido to pay him the outstanding $500,000, approximately N821 million.

The statement read in part: “David Adeleke aka Davido sometime in 2017 signed a music contract with Sony Music and sang his song titled Pere with David Adeleke aka Davido, who acknowledged that our client wrote the song. He also contacted David Adeleke aka Davido to pay him his fees which he refused to do. David Adeleke aka Davido had promised to pay our client $500,000 which he failed to pay him.

“That he demanded the sum from him on many occasions before one of Davido’s allies threatened his life as can be seen in Exhibit 5, which his security camera captured the incident. That he also tried to contact Davido to pay him his fees, to which Davido agreed but refused to take his calls, prompting him to release Exhibit 7 as he blocked him on all his phone lines. That the police have also put PND on all his accounts in the banks that use his BVN as he is no longer able to pay any bills at the moment.”

Furthermore, Dammy Krane urged Mr. Egbetokun to conduct a thorough investigation into Mr. Umeike’s death, conclude the case quickly and ensure that the suspect faces legal charges.

He also requested that the IGP assign the case to his impartial team of investigators.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun

“He is asking for your intervention to conclude the investigation into Tagbo’s death, which is the basis for his arrest and the death threat he received. He is earnestly appealing to you, as the Chief of the Nigerian Police, with tears in his eyes, to investigate his complaint and conclude the investigation into Tagbo’s death.

“Dear Inspector General of Police, we are fully confident that with your operational and administrative experience with the Nigeria Police, you will intervene there and save the life of Oyindamola Johnson Emmanuel aka Dammy Krane. We therefore fervently appeal to your Reverend’s office to order the transfer of the case file to any impartial team of police investigators to conclude the investigation.”

Furthermore, Dammy Krane claimed that Davido stole his song, ‘Pere’, and alleged that he arrested him after he demanded payment of his rightful share.

“That he (Dammy Krane) made a post demanding Davido to return the right to his music titled Pere which was stolen by the said Davido. That on the 21st of August 2024, the DIG Police, FCIID, Abuja stormed his residence in Lagos and arrested him, took him to Abuja to the office of the Director, NPF-National Cyber Crime Centre and detained him till the 29th of August 2024 when he was released on administrative bail.

“When the DIG, FCIID police officers came to arrest him, he was informed that David Adeleke alias Davido had filed a defamation case against me. He informed the police that Davido’s lawyer had made the same allegation to Davido who wrote to him demanding a reaction to what was published and to which his lawyers responded.”

In June, PREMIUM TIMES reported that Davido, through his legal team, issued a cease and desist order to hold Dammy Krane accountable for his defamatory statements.

The legal action was prompted by a tweet that went viral, in which Dammy Krane alleged that he (Davido) was a “murderer” and a “cheater.”

However, Dammy Krane did not retract or tone down the accusations against the singer.
