The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) announced that 18 political parties have nominated candidates for the upcoming local government election. This election is set for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The head of OSSIEC, Hashim Abioye, shared this news during a meeting in Osogbo. He said it’s the first time all 18 political parties in the state are joining the local government election. They have all sent in their nominations, and OSSIEC is checking their details to make sure everything is correct.
Hashim Abioye said, “I’m happy to tell you that for the first time, all 18 political parties in Osun State are taking part and have sent us their nominations.”
“We are very prepared. We gave notice of the election back in February 2024, earlier this year, even before the Supreme Court had its say on the matter.”
“We have already received the nominations and are now in the process of verifying them. We expect the verification committee to finish its job soon, and after that, we will announce the final list of candidates. So, we are making good progress.”
He also said that OSSIEC is sticking to the election timetable that was shared with the public and the political parties.
“The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission is not in a hurry; we want to make sure everything goes smoothly.”
“If you look at the schedule and activities we published, you will see that we are following each step carefully,” he added.
