LP Crisis: BoT Informs Abure His Tenure Has Ended

Must Read

The Labour Party’s temporary committee in Abuja has asked Julius Abure to stop calling himself the party’s national chairman because his time in the position ended on June 9.

During a news conference, Salisu Mohammed, the Secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees, shared this information. The conference was organized by the leaders of the Labour National Transitional Committee (NTC) in Abuja.

Mohammed explained that this decision was made at a stakeholder meeting in Umuahia, led by the Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee, which he said was legal and proper.

The NTC has been working hard to get the party back on track and free from what they called Abure’s unlawful actions and corruption.

Since Abure took over as national chairman after the unexpected death of the former chairman, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, in 2000, he has led the party without holding any elections.

Even INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, had asked him to leave the position meant for the Labour Party’s Chairman.

The NTC’s actions led to a meeting of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Umuahia.

The Nigerian Labour Congress, which is a trustee of the Labour Party, supports and praises the NEC’s decisions made at its meeting on September 4, 2024.

They back the 29-man Caretaker Committee to set up and run fair elections to choose new party leaders at the Ward, LGA, State, and National levels,’ he said.

He also said that the NEC, organized by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, was the right step to save the party from these so-called illegal actions.
