5,776 young athletes from 29 different states have come to Asaba, Delta State, for the 8th National Youth Games. The big opening ceremony will happen on Thursday.
The Governor of Delta State, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, checked out the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. This stadium is the main place where the games will happen.
The Governor said that Delta State is ready to host the games, which will begin in Asaba tomorrow.
He looked at the swimming pool, shooting range, and Indoor Sports Hall. He was shown around by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chief Solomon Ogba, and some important people from the State Sports Commission.
Talking to reporters, he said, “We are all set to host the National Youth Games. The opening ceremony is tomorrow. I believe this year’s event will be even better than last year’s.
“These games are important because, from the last Olympics in Paris, we saw athletes like Favour Ofili do very well. She didn’t win a medal but she got her start at these games.
“So this year, we hope to find even better talents than Ofili. This year’s games will be better than last year’s, I promise.”
