Gunmen kill an aide to the speaker of the Assembly

Gunmen have reportedly killed Samson Omoarebokhae, a senior special assistant to the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku.

Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, Special Adviser to the Speaker of Parliament on Media, disclosed this on Monday in Benin, saying the Speaker of Parliament had sent a message of condolence to the family of the slain aide.

Ms Adodo-Ebojele said Mr Omoarebokhae was killed on August 31 while on his way to Uhumora from Ozalla in Owan West Local Government of the state.

The press aide said that when the president learned of the incident, he immediately sent a delegation to pay condolences to the family of the deceased.

Mrs. Adodo-Ebojele noted that the Chief of Staff to the President, Odion Iruobe, who led the delegation, described her death as a great loss to the Assembly, the PDP and the people of Owan West Local Government.

She said the chief of staff urged the grieving family to draw strength from God's promises not to leave the bereaved without comfort.

According to her, the deceased was one of the president's trusted collaborators.

She said the president had assured that he would do everything in his power to ensure that the killers were arrested and faced the wrath of the law.

“Although it is a painful situation, we pray to God in his infinite power to give the family a reason to smile again.

“We pray to God that he may rest the soul of the deceased and give the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

On behalf of the family, Elijah Omoarebokhai, brother of the deceased, expressed the family's gratitude to the speaker for sending the delegation to share with them their period of grief.
