The Rivers State Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Honest, for gang-raping a 14-year-old girl in Erima community, Onelga area.
Rivers Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed to reporters in Port Harcourt on Sunday that the suspect committed the crime with his brother, Okwukwe, who is currently at large.
He said the arrest followed a complaint made by the survivor's mother to local community vigilantes.
“The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
“Rivers Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu has ordered a manhunt for the fugitive suspect and any other accomplices,” said Superintendent of Police Ms Iringe-Koko.
A local vigilante, Onuigba Aboy, said the suspect was arrested shortly after receiving a distress call.
“Upon arriving at the suspect’s house, we found Honest and Okwukwe assaulting the teenager.
