Kano Electoral Commission Resets Local Government Elections for October 26

Must Read

Recently, the Supreme Court said that states must hold Local Government Council Elections by October 2024. Because of this, the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSAIC) has moved their LG elections to October 26, 2024.

Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, the head of the Commission, talked about this change while speaking to reporters on Friday.

Professor Sani said they are also changing other important dates. Instead of sharing the election rules and notifications on August 15, 2024, they will now do it on August 31, 2024.

“Political parties will now have their primaries and must submit the names of their candidates to the Commission between September 3 and September 14, 2024,” he explained.

He also mentioned that selling forms for candidates will be from September 15 to September 26, 2024. These forms need to be returned by September 27 to October 8, 2024.

“We will check the candidates and accept the names of party agents, release the list of qualified candidates, and make any changes needed from October 9 to October 18, 2024,” he added.

They will publish the names of candidates who can run in the election from October 20 to October 26, 2024. The results will also be announced on October 26, 2024, and if a second round of voting is needed, it will happen by November 9, 2024.
