On a Tuesday, an Enugu Magistrates’ Court in the Enugu North Local Government Area sent a 40-year-old man named Osita Igwe to the Enugu Correctional Centre. He is accused of stealing from another person named Chijioke Mba.

The police say the robbery happened on July 5, 2024, at a place called the Ebeano Tunnel in Enugu.

Osita Igwe’s home address was not given, but he is facing three serious charges of robbery. However, he says he did not do it.

Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Enugu Commissioner of Police, informed the court with case file number MEN/541/2024 that Osita did this bad thing at Ebeano Tunnel on the said date.

The charges against Osita say, “Osita Igwe and others who are not here, you planned together to do bad things, like robbery, on July 5, 2024, at Ebeano Tunnel Road, Enugu. This is against the law stated in section 6 (b) of the ROBBERY AND FIREARMS (SPECIAL PROVISIONS) ACT, CAP. R11 L.F.N. 2004.”

The charges continue, “On the same date, place, and time, you Osita and others not here used force to rob Chief Chijioke Mba of his Samsung Fold 4 phone worth one million, three hundred thousand naira (N1,300,000.00), an iPhone 13 Pro max worth eight hundred thousand naira (N800,000.00), a black iPhone cord worth five thousand naira (N5,000.00), and an envelope with five hundred U.S. dollars cash. These actions are against section 1 (1) and (2) (b) of the ROBBERY AND FIREARMS (SPECIAL PROVISIONS) ACT CAP. R11 L.F.N. 2004.”

The items Osita and his friends supposedly took include a Samsung Fold 4 phone, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, a black iPhone cord, and five hundred U.S. dollars in cash.

Magistrate Nelson Egbo will continue hearing the case on September 20, 2024.

Osita will stay in the Enugu Correctional Centre until he goes to court again.
