Five people sadly lost their lives when a small boat flipped over in Gantsa town, Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
A local person told Newslodge that the accident happened because they were trying to cross a road that was covered with floodwater in Gantsa town.
The person said the boat turned over, and the people in it drowned.
The police spokesperson for Jigawa State, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed that this happened.
He said, “The accident took place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at around 12:00 pm. We learned that a small boat with five people was trying to cross a flooded road in Gantsa town, Buji LGA. The boat flipped over, and the people drowned instantly.
“When we got the report, policemen quickly teamed up with local divers and rushed to the scene to try and save them.”
He said the people were taken to Gantsa Cottage Hospital. Sadly, the doctor there said they had already died, and their bodies were later given to their families for burial.
The people who died were named Lurwanu Adamu, Idris Abubakar, Fiddausi Dahiru, Ramla Nura, and Usman Adamu, all from Malamawar Gangare, Birnin Kudu LGA.
