The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) says it will rain and thunder in many places across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
In their weather report on Saturday, NiMet said there will be thunderstorms in the morning on Sunday in the northern states of Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe.
They also expect more thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in these northern areas.
The report says, “Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain will happen in the whole region. Cloudy skies will be in the southern cities in the morning, with rain expected in many areas later in the day.”
Rain in Different Parts of the Country
On Monday, morning thunderstorms will be in parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa States, with more thunderstorms in the northern region later in the day.
NiMet said there will be morning thunderstorms with rain in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.
There will also be thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger States later in the day, with cloudy skies over southern states.
NiMet said most places will have off-and-on rain in the afternoon and evening.
The report says, “Later in the day, cloudy skies are expected everywhere. In the North Central region, thunderstorms with rain will be in parts of Niger and Kwara States in the morning.”
“In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with rain will be in parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States. Off-and-on rain will be in the southern region all day.”
Advice to People in Flood-Prone Areas
NiMet advised people to stay away from flood-prone areas because there is a big chance of flooding in major cities due to heavy rain. Also, strong winds might come with the storms.
The public should follow safety tips from the authorities and stay updated with NiMet’s weather reports, available on their website.
NiMet also advised airline operators to get weather reports for airports to plan their operations well.
