Three Monkeypox Cases Detected in Edo – Report by Health Ministry

The government of Edo State said on Tuesday that Monkeypox is now in the state. This news came from Dr. Ojeifo Stephenson, who works in public health. He shared this information for the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Stephenson said that three people might have Monkeypox. These reports came in the last three days.

All these people are currently in a special hospital called Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) and also at Edo State University Teaching Hospital in Auchi. Right now, they are getting the care they need.

The state is working with other important groups to keep everyone informed. They will give more information when needed.

Dr. Stephenson also told everyone in the state to be very careful to avoid getting this disease.

He said everyone should wash their hands well with soap and water often. If soap and water are not available, using an alcohol-based sanitizer is good too. Clean surfaces and things that people touch a lot. Throw away waste correctly. Also, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and wear masks when in crowded places.

If you think someone has Monkeypox, tell the state health officials right away.
