The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State is upset about the recent local government elections. They say the elections were not fair.
Mr. Abdulazeez Haruna, the State Secretary of PRP, shared a statement. He said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bauchi State government teamed up with the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to cheat in the elections.
The PRP believes that the election was planned unfairly. They think that the results were decided before people even voted. This made it look like the election was just for show, without giving people a real chance to choose their leaders.
Mr. Haruna said that people should get to vote for their leaders. But in this case, a small group of people just decided who would win the positions. This is not how democracy should work.
The PRP is also disappointed in IPAC, which is supposed to keep elections fair. Instead, they think IPAC chose to help a few people get what they wanted.
The PRP said that the leaders of IPAC, who are also leaders of other political parties, got rewards like councillorship seats for helping with the unfair elections.
According to the PRP, the PDP won all the main positions in the election. They believe the people of Bauchi State were not allowed to vote freely and had their rights taken away.
The PRP sees this as a big injustice and says it makes a joke out of democracy. They feel that the people of Bauchi State were dealt with unfairly and that this will be remembered as a bad chapter in the state’s history.
The PRP is asking everyone, including organizations that care about fairness and democracy, to stand with them. They want to make sure that such unfair elections do not happen again, and that the voice of the people is respected.
