Why Psquare Might Never Reunite Again – Paul (Rudeboy)

Must Read

Paul Okoye, aka Rudeboy, one half of the now-defunct P-Square, has revealed why the group may not reunite.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that P-Square, which consists of three brothers, Paul, Peter and Jude, has been in the news for over a week due to a series of internal issues.

The long-running feud between the Okoye brothers, which shows no signs of ending, escalated when Rudeboy confirmed P-Square's latest split in an interview on City FM.

During the interview, Rudeboy alleged that his brother, Peter (Mr. P), filed a petition with the EFCC, accusing him and his brother, Jude, of financial misconduct and misappropriation of P-Square funds.

However, in an open letter, Peter detailed his version of events and claimed that Paul and Jude conspired to damage his reputation. He also claimed that Jude secretly created a company with his wife to siphon off P-Square funds.

Similarly, Jude, then manager and director of the now defunct P-Square, addressed the group's separation and royalties in an Instagram Live monitored by this newspaper and denied Peter's accusations.

However, during an Instagram Live on Monday, Rudeboy put an end to speculation about P-Square's possible reconciliation.

He said, “Even if we’re not doing P-Square, can’t we still be brothers? I don’t like to talk and I don’t want to say too much. I haven’t spoken before, but unfortunately, I have to do it now. We can’t take back P-Square by insulting or blaming this or that person.

“We can’t. P-Square will not appear again because of the insults. I, Rudeboy, can bear the insults but he (Peter) cannot. With the current situation, we have gone to the EFCC, they have investigated everything and declared me innocent.”

Peter Okoye from Psquare Witness

Rudeboy expressed concern about being a witness in the ongoing EFCC case involving Peter and Jude.

According to him, Jude has not had any business with P-Square for eight years.

He said: “The fact that they (EFCC) declared me innocent, he (Peter) raised other issues and they investigated them.”

This newspaper earlier reported that Jude revealed that Peter requested the EFCC to investigate him (Jude) over allegations of diverting royalties from P-Square.

He said: “As for the EFCC’s request, I found myself in the middle of it all. The EFCC told me that I was free from blame and that I am now a witness because there were battles between Peter and Jude. How can I be a witness for two brothers?

“Am I supposed to support one and leave the other behind? This is where I found myself and I don’t know what to do. This is where I think I know Peter is angry. Jude hasn’t had anything to do with P-Square for eight years, and for people who say he’s supposed to be a big brother, isn’t it that when someone acknowledges you as a big brother you understand? Unfortunately, this is happening in my family; I need peace more than you (our fans) do.”

North side

He further alleged that Mr P included him in the petition before the EFCC because he wanted to create a certain image of him.

He also denied Peter's accusation that Northside Music was a secret company that Jude and his wife used to siphon off P-Square money.

“Whenever he (Peter) linked me to the ongoing case, the EFCC always said that Paul was innocent. This is where it is a problem for me because I am a witness. I heard that Jude opened a secret account (Northside), what is a secret account? Jude’s company, Northside, existed before P-Square, which was when Jude was an actor; it was later renamed Northside Ltd, which was P-Square’s management company, but now it is Northside Music, which represents artistes,” he added.

Formula for sharing the P-square

Meanwhile, Jude revealed P-square’s revenue distribution formula in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

“All income generated from P-square activities will be shared between the parties as follows: Peter Obumuneme Okoye 30 percent; Paul Chukwunonso Okoye 30 percent and Jude Okoye (Manager) 25 percent. The remaining 15 percent will be used for projects, maintenance, upkeep and salaries of all staff of Northside's Entertainment, the management company authorized to handle bookings and all business transactions of the P-square brand.

“Jude Okoye will be responsible for bookings and management of the group, with full participation from all other parties. Jude Okoye will also be physically present at all events booked by him, except if excused by all parties due to other pressing issues affecting the group. All parties will have email and phone alerts set up for bank account monitoring purposes. That P-square profits will be shared between the parties at the end of each annual quarter (i.e. March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31).”

Furthermore, the MOU stipulated that all of P-Square's intellectual property, including but not limited to songs, images, likenesses, goodwill, catalogs, titles, albums and videos, must be preserved and used exclusively for the collective benefit of the music group.

Furthermore, the MOU stated that “neither party has any right to use any of the aforementioned copyrighted products, properties or materials of the P-square brand for its personal use without the written consent of the other parties.”

Background

The latest split for the 42-year-old singers, who began their musical careers in 1999, came more than two years after their highly publicized reunion in 2021.

The twin brothers split in 2017 but patched up in 2021 after a four-year breakup and several public controversies that alienated colleagues and fans.

While they were separated, Paul, known as Rudeboy, released songs like “Fire Fire” and “Nkenji Keke,” among others.

Additionally, Peter, known as Mr P, released tracks such as “For My Head” and “Cool It Down”.
