Estate Agents in Lagos Accused of Fraud

The Police in Lagos took two estate agents, Lukman Akande and Justice Odion, to court on Monday. They are accused of cheating someone out of N1.5 million.

Akande is 43 years old, and Odion is 34 years old. The police said they tricked Mr. Yomi Obafusu into giving them N1.5 million. They said they would use the money to rent a room where people can watch shows or sports.

But after getting the money, they did not give it to the person who owns the room. Instead, they kept the money for themselves. This made Mr. Obafusu very upset, and he called the police.

The police said Akande and Odion broke two laws. One law is about cheating people to get money. The other law is about causing trouble and making people angry. These laws are from the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Akande and Odion said they did not do anything wrong. They told the judge they are not guilty.

The judge, Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya, said Akande and Odion can go home for now. But they have to pay N500,000 each as a promise to come back to court. Also, two people have to promise that Akande and Odion will come back to court. One of these people has to be a community leader, and they need to show they have paid their taxes for two years.

The judge said they will talk about the case again on September 10.
