APC Calls on EFCC to Investigate Drug Supply to 44 Local Government Areas in Kano

APC Calls for Investigation in Kano

APC Wants an Investigation in Kano State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, on Sunday, asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into a new scandal about medical supply contracts in the state’s 44 local governments.

The APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, said this on Sunday in a statement from Kano.

Abbas wants the accounts of the local governments to be frozen so that no more money can be taken in the name of joint projects.

He said that the Governor, Abba Yusuf, admitted he did not know about this problem. To Abbas, this shows that the Governor is either not in control or not capable of leading the state.

Abbas laughed at the idea that the state’s Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission would investigate this issue.

He said that the chairman of this anti-corruption commission, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, is not trustworthy, is biased, and cannot properly investigate this scandal. Abbas accused this scandal of involving the Governor’s family members and the leader of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

He mentioned that this was just one of many financial problems involving officials from the NNPP government.

Abbas remembered that the government gave out controversial contracts worth N27 billion to build two bridges in the city. The payment would be shared between the state and 44 local governments in a 30/70 ratio.

He also said there were other money issues involving the government that were not looked into properly. One example was a political appointee changing and repackaging palliatives (aid supplies).

The Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, praised the state Governor for asking for an immediate investigation into the drug supply contracts. He said this was the right thing to do.

Dantiye explained that the contracts for the two roads in the city followed the right process, and the information was open for everyone to see.

Dantiye was surprised that APC leaders often want the courts to stop investigations into their activities. He questioned why they would do this if they have nothing to hide.

He also mentioned calls for the state government to look into how the former first lady allegedly used local government funds through 44 bank accounts during her two terms.

Dantiye promised the people of Kano State that Governor Abba Yusuf’s government is committed to keeping its promises, ensuring transparency, and punishing anyone who does not follow the law.
