APC Rejects Bauchi Local Government Election Results, Calls for Immediate Resignation of BASIEC Chairman

Must Read

The main opposition party in Bauchi, called All Progressives Congress (APC), isn’t happy with the results of the local government election. They think it wasn’t fair and say the election cheated the voters’ rights and made fun of democracy.

According to DAILY POST, the party currently in power, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won in all 20 local government areas on Saturday, August 17.

Alhaji Ahmed Makama, who is the Executive Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), announced these results on Saturday night from his office.

The new leaders and their assistants are supposed to start their jobs on Sunday, August 18.

But, at a press meeting on Saturday at their office, APC’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Rabiu Garba, criticized the election. He said it was just a political trick by the PDP-led government in Bauchi State.

He said, “Like we said yesterday, BASIEC didn’t plan to hold a fair and honest election. What happened today in all 20 areas was fake and tricked voters and politicians.”

“The election had many problems. There weren’t enough election materials, some important materials and results sheets were held back, votes were unfairly given to the PDP, no officials were there to declare results, some officers left election materials behind, and in most places in Bauchi State, elections didn’t even happen.”

APC wants Ahmad Makama to quit as Chairman of the Commission because he didn’t do his job right.

The party also wants BASIEC to cancel the election that happened on August 17, 2024, and asks the state government to replace the current Electoral Commission. They want a new, honest team to hold fresh elections that are fair and follow international standards.
