Dr. Ben Nwoye, who used to be the boss of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has asked political leaders to be careful with their words, especially those in the South-East. He wants them to avoid talking in ways that might make people angry at the judges.
Last week, there was more trouble in the APC because an Enugu State High Court told Barr Ugochukwu Agballah to stop saying he’s the chairman of the party.
This made Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the APC National Vice Chairman for the South-East, very upset. He said the judge didn’t do a good job and promised to complain to the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Dr. Nwoye said that no one, not even important leaders, should act like they are above the law.
He talked to news reporters at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, in Enugu.
He didn’t like what Arodiogbu said, pointing out that talking against court decisions is bad for the country’s democracy.
Dr. Nwoye said, “When leaders start acting like judges and say things that go against the law, it encourages people to also break the law. This is very serious.
“Everyone should follow the law, no matter what. It’s something we all must do, no matter what we want.”
He also said that Arodiogbu, being a big leader in APC, should set a good example. He shouldn’t be making decisions about the law all by himself.
“The court has already said that Ugochukwu Agballah and some others shouldn’t keep doing their jobs and stay away from APC properties.
“If someone like Arodiogbu says things against this, it just makes more trouble in Enugu State.”
He told all APC leaders to think carefully before speaking in public.
He also asked the police and other security to protect Chief Alphonsus Nwafor, the acting APC chairman in Enugu, the judge who gave the court order, and all APC properties in the state.
