The Niger State Police have found a dead baby in a farm in Tayi village, Minna.
SP Wasiu Abiodun, who speaks for the Niger Police, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) about it on Tuesday.
He said that on August 9, the GRA Police Division heard that a very young baby, maybe just one day old, was found dead in a farm in Tayi village, Minna.
Police officers from the GRA Division went to the farm and called welfare officials from Chanchaga Local Government to help.
A doctor came with the welfare team, checked on the baby, and said the baby was dead.
SP Abiodun said they are now looking into what happened and are getting help from the community to find who did this bad thing.
One person who lives in the area, but asked to remain unnamed, told NAN that they think a woman who had a baby outside of marriage left the baby there.
“The woman might have left the baby there when it was still alive. The baby died because it was very cold. We have never seen something like this happen here before,” the resident said.
