The Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with the Malaria Consortium, had provided 6.8 million doses of malaria prevention drugs to children in the state between three and 59 months of age.
The development was disclosed to journalists by the Director of the Malaria Consortium Campaign, Lurwanu Muhammad, during a media roundtable in Dutse, capital of Jigawa State, on Monday.
Mr. Muhammad said the distribution of free medicines will begin from August 9 to 13.
The official said that around 3.2 million insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) will also be distributed to households in the state.
“As part of efforts to eliminate malaria, the Jigawa State Government in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) with financial support from the Global Fund Malaria Project, has initiated the process of the 2024 integrated insecticide-treated nets and social behaviour change campaign in the state.
“ITN distribution will be a two-phase approach (home mobilization and then distribution at designated distribution points), while SPAQ administration will be a door-to-door approach,” the official said at the event.

Mr. Muhammad said pregnant women will also receive insecticide-treated nets free of charge during their first antenatal care visit and a fully immunized child at the nearest government health center.

The official advised residents to dispose of used tires, close all open water containers and water collection areas around the house and keep the environment clean.
