2Baba: “Our Sacrifices Were Key to Afrobeats’ Ascent”

Must Read

Famous Nigerian singer, Innocent Ujah Idibia, also known as 2Baba, said that even though there are many new Afrobeats artists, he is still important in the music world.

The singer of the hit song “African Queen” said that his hard work, along with his peers, helped make Afrobeats popular today.

He shared this in a recent talk with AFRIMMA.

2Baba advised young artists to be patient and not rush for quick success.

He urged them to learn from Burna Boy, who started by performing in small places and slowly built a strong group of fans before performing in big places like arenas and stadiums.

2Baba said, “Burna Boy sells out Madison Square Garden, and some artists think they are at the same level. That’s not true.

“Burna Boy worked hard to reach where he is now, and you have to go through the same steps. Burna Boy didn’t just wake up one day and sell out Madison Square Garden. It took time and effort.

“He began by performing in small venues and got many fans gradually. Now, you see his success. It’s the same steps for everyone. Those of us who came before made sacrifices to pave the way [smiles].

“But that doesn’t mean I am no longer important. I am still here making great music.”
