The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured Abuja residents that he will continue reforms and achievements from 2024 in the New Year.
Wike disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday after detailing projects launched in 2024, saying massive infrastructure development is a key driver of economic growth and improved quality of life.
He said “Dear FCT Residents, Happy New Year! As we enter 2025 with renewed hope and optimism, I extend my warmest wishes to all of you. And pray that this new year brings peace, progress and prosperity to all households in the FCT.
“I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to you for cooperating with the administration in the implementation of its policies and programs. Your support and understanding have fueled our vision for a better FCT. I also commend your commitment to peaceful coexistence and mutual care over the past year.
“While it was a challenging year for many, it is true that 2024 was extraordinary for the FCT as we recorded significant achievements that have laid the foundation for sustained development.
“These achievements demonstrate our collective effort and commitment to building a prosperous, unified and progressive FCT.
“Among our key achievements of the past 12 months are: massive infrastructure development, including the construction of new urban and rural roads, has dramatically improved connectivity and accessibility for residents, and rural road development has significantly improved economic activities in our rural communities, creating opportunities and improving livelihoods.”
The minister said his office also prioritized education by rehabilitating several schools, ensuring that students learn in conducive environments and that the future generation has quality education.
“Our efforts to improve security, which included supplying more than 100 vehicles to various security agencies and implementing bolder and more innovative strategies, have yielded positive results. Residents can now sleep peacefully at night, confident in the safety of their neighborhoods.
“The creation of the Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development and other administrative changes implemented during the year have improved efficiency, accountability and service delivery, strengthened governance and made it more responsive to needs.” of the residents.
“By fostering an enabling environment for foreign and local investments, the FCT witnessed visible economic growth. This has had a particular impact in rural areas, where infrastructural improvements have boosted economic activities and development.
“Our focus this year will continue to be: Massive infrastructure development will continue, as a key driver of economic growth and improved quality of life.
“Improve the health, education and agriculture sectors, ensuring that all residents can access essential services.
“We will seriously begin to address public transportation challenges through private sector participation, alleviating transportation problems and ensuring smooth mobility for residents.
“Expand youth employment and positive engagement programs to harness the energy and creativity of our youth for the development of the FCT.
“Taking advantage of our tourism potential. Leveraging our achievements in the security sector.
“Fellow residents, we must also recognize that sustainable development requires the active participation of all residents. I urge you to fulfill your civic obligations by paying taxes, dues and levies as appropriate, as they are essential to generate the revenue needed to finance development projects.
“Let us remain committed to ensuring that the FCT remains the right center of unity, upholding the dreams of our founding fathers.
