The top police officer in Nigeria, Kayode Egbetokun, shared some good news. During a mission to save 20 kidnapped medical students, his team managed to kill a dangerous kidnapper and catch two others.

During a handover ceremony in Abuja, Egbetokun spoke to the students’ university leaders, saying the bad guys they caught were now in jail.

Just to remind you, on August 15, 20 medical students were taken by criminals while traveling from Benue to Enugu. A week later, on August 22, the police team saved the students, along with other victims who were already held by kidnappers.

The best part? They rescued 27 people without paying any ransom.

Egbetokun said, “We managed to bring down the leader of this bad gang during a gunfight with our officers. We also caught two other gang members and grabbed their weapons. Right now, they are helping us with information to stop more kidnappings in the future.”

He added that the rescue mission was very hard and complicated. It needed a lot of resources, courage, careful planning, and teamwork.

“I want to thank the National Security Adviser (NSA) for their big help in this operation. The NSA, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, was personally committed to this mission, and I also want to appreciate other security agencies and local help from the vigilantes who made this rescue possible,” said Egbetokun.

He emphasized that the successful rescue showed the power of teamwork when people work together for a common goal.

The university leaders praised the police and the security agencies for their great work in rescuing the students safely and without any ransom payment.

Prof Tanko Ishaya, the leader of the University of Jos, mentioned that they were planning to help the students recover from the trauma of their kidnapping experience.
