The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has shown a young woman named Nguemo Ikyowe, who is 17 years old, for allegedly harming her three-year-old stepson, Vanen Ikyowe. This happened in Ginde village, Guma LGA of the state.
On Thursday, at the Command’s headquarters in Makurdi, the State Commandant, Larai Bitrus, said Nguemo was arrested on September 12. She is being accused of a serious crime.
Larai Bitrus explained that they got an emergency call from people saying that Nguemo had hurt a little boy and put his body in a river.
“Our officers in Ginde village quickly went to the location and caught the suspect. During questioning, she admitted to what she did.
“The suspect showed the officers where the boy’s body was. They found it and took it to a mortuary in Ginde village.
“The crime is very serious, so she will be handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation and possible punishment,” Bitrus explained.
When talking to journalists, Nguemo said she is the second wife of the boy’s father.
She said she was in the forest with her stepson to collect firewood when she suddenly felt possessed by a spirit and then harmed the boy.
