According to reports, no less than 16 people have been burned until death, and three other serious injuries, in a solitary accident that occurred on the Buhari farm along the Abeokuta-Sagamu highway, state of Ogun.
The accident, which involved a White Mazda bus as KJA 949 YJ, occurred around 1:00 pm on Tuesday.
Federal Road Safety Corps spokesman, FRSC, Florence Okpe, in a statement made available to the Daily Post, said the victims' genre could not be determined since they burned beyond recognition.
According to Okpe, the suspicion of the cause of the accident was a fire outbreak in the vehicle, and added that the bus, which transmitted to 21 passengers, also had a stuffed gas cylinder, which led to an explosion.
He pointed out that a rescue operation was carried out by agents of the RS2.2 Abeokuta sector.
“A total of 21 people were involved in the accident. The genres of the victims could not be determined in the scene because they were burned beyond recognition.
“A total of 16 people died in the accident, three suffered several degrees of injuries, and two others remained unharmed.
“The suspicion of the cause of the accident was a fire outbreak in the vehicle, which also had a full gas cylinder, which led to the explosion.”
The FRSC spokesman said that the injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Center, IDE ABA, Abeokuta, while the corpses are still on the scene waiting for the evacuation.
Meanwhile, the commander of the sector, Akinwumi Fasakin, while sympathizing with the deceased's families, warned that highly flammable articles must be transported with care and by designated vehicles driven only by trained drivers.
Fasakin said the accident occurred due to carelessness by the driver and advised motorists and passengers to prioritize security while using the roads.
