Here’s a simplified and unique version of the blog post:

Sixteen people died in China after a fire in a shopping center.

The fire happened on Wednesday in Zigong, a city in southwestern China, and news came out Thursday morning.

Firefighters arrived just after 6 pm at the 14-story building. They saved 75 people, according to the official news agency Xinhua.

We still don’t know what caused the fire or how many people were inside. The building has a department store, offices, restaurants, and a movie theater.

Videos show thick black smoke coming from the lower floors, covering the whole building. Firefighters used water sprays and drones to fight the fire.

By May this year, China reported 947 fire deaths, which is 19 percent more than last year. Li Wanfeng, a spokesperson for the National Fire and Rescue Administration, said fires in public places like hotels and restaurants went up by 40 percent.

Most fires were caused by electrical problems.
