A 12-year-old boy was taken by the police after he hurt six students with a knife at a school in Azambuja, a town close to Lisbon, on Tuesday. The police said the kids who got hurt were between 11 and 14 years old.
Silvino Lúcio, the Mayor of Azambuja, said one boy had a bad cut on his chest and had to be taken to a big hospital in Lisbon.
Lúcio also said that the boy’s bad injury is now getting better, and he will be okay. The five other kids who were hurt were all girls, and they only had small cuts on their arms.
The police are still trying to find out why the boy did this. The attack has made the quiet town very worried.
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said the attack was very bad and called it a “one-time act.” He wished the children a speedy recovery.
“It was a one-time act and very unusual in Portugal. But it should make everyone who works in public spaces think responsibly,” Montenegro wrote.
